Once there she has to experience all the Iraqi ways and customs. She isn't allowed to be out in public unless she
is accompanied by a man. She also isn’t allowed to take a shower every
day. Which makes her mad and everyone in the house stinks. After being
there for two weeks her husband said he lost his job so they're not
going back to America
Betty
then runs to the U.S. Embassy for help and finds that she can leave the
country. But she cannot take her daughter because in Iran the father
has legal custody. Then Betty refuses to leave without her daughter and
returns to the home that she must now share with her husband. She is
mistreated by both her husband and his family. She is beat and locked
inside her rooms for days. She must learn to prepare insect infected
food. She has to watch her daughter be mistreated and she has to live in
a country that doesn't respect women. The worst part is she doesn't
speak their language so she has no way to communicate with the people to
get help or know what's going on. Her husband also keeps lying to her
and want let her talk to her daughter.
How did you happen to choose this book? How far have you gotten in it? How does her husband keep her from talking to her daughter?
ReplyDeleteI am around 80 pages in the book and he keeps her from talking to her daughter by locking Betty in a room.
